Where Is Hope?

I struggled to see how I would cope

Psalm 53:1-6

Explore: There are only a few times in my life where I struggled to have hope in the future.

One was in Year 11 at school. I had changed boarding schools and struggled to fit into my new school.

Every day I felt lonely and isolated. It was like no one understood me or cared enough to acknowledge me. I struggled to see how I would cope for the remaining two years of my schooling.

There are other times when I have been through trials, but I’ve still had a sense of purpose and potential. But when you feel that hope is gone, the challenge to pull through becomes even greater.

Application: All through the Bible, particularly in the Psalms, we read of people struggling to find hope for the future. In our world today, people also struggle to find hope.

They look to their friends or family, they look to alcohol or gambling, and they look to themselves as they try to do it all on their own. And yet, all these avenues are flawed and faulted.

The only true hope is to be found in Christ. He is the One who offers a future with purpose and potential.

Let’s not kid ourselves when we look for hope in other places. That hope is momentary, God’s hope is eternal.

Prayer: Lord, when all hope seems lost may I stay focused upon You. Show me Your future so that I may live a life according to Your plan. Amen.
