She can make any outfit look a million dollars
Reference: He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied. (Acts 21:9 NIV)
Explore: It’s so easy to feel insignificant. There are some incredible people in the world and, at times, I don’t feel I could ever compare.
A friend of mine has four young children. As a parent she never raises her voice, she is creative and cooks healthy meals every day.
Another friend is incredibly intelligent. She is well read and has the ability to form her own understandings and communicates them succinctly.
A new friend I’ve recently met is stunning. She can make any outfit look a million dollars and it always looks like she’s just stepped out of a salon.
While I love being around these incredible people it can often make me feel like I am totally inadequate.
Application: Thankfully, God does not look at me the same way I view myself. He sees me as a beautiful part of His creation who can do great things.
When Paul was travelling around he met an evangelist who had four unmarried daughters. In this culture, these females would have been considered as nobodies and probably quite a burden on their father.
As unmarried daughters they did not provide any value to the family and they had no place in society until they were wed. And yet God saw them differently.
The writer of Acts says that they were able to be the voice of God, and so, although they did not have a place in society they had a great purpose in God. This can be true for us as well. When we feel insignificant and unworthy we need to remember that God feels differently about us.
We can never be someone else as that’s not how God created us. Instead of comparing ourselves to others, let’s see ourselves as God does – worthy, significant, gifted.
Prayer: Lord, help me to stop trying to live up to other people’s standards and just look to You for who I should be. Amen.
Who have you compared yourself to? How does God see you?
