You Are A Worm

My shout was not one of fear or surprise, it was absolute joy.

Hosea 4:1-19

Reference“But let no one bring a charge, let no one accuse another, for your people are like those who bring charges against a priest. (Hosea 4:4 NIV)

Explore: The other day, while digging in the garden, I found a worm. I literally shouted out loud. My shout was not one of fear or surprise, it was absolute joy.

You see, I had been caring for this plot of land for quite some time and seeing a worm take residence in the ground showed me that the soil was now healthy. Worms are so good for gardens and it’s presence meant that my soil was only getting better.

I then realised that if you were to call someone a worm it would be a derogatory term. And yet a real worm actually leaves soil in a better place than it was before.

Application: We often get called negative things in life. It may not be a direct name given to us but maybe a tag or a stereotype that we are put in.

People try to sum us up in one word and yet we are much more than a name or a title.

No matter what people call us, or who people think we are, our aim in this life is to leave it in a better place than it was before. In that sense, we should all be worms.

No matter what soil you find yourself in, work at making it better than it was before you were there.

Prayer: Lord, You gave us the perfect example, when you were on this earth, of making a place better because of your presence. May we do the same as we strive to serve You. May we put off other people’s opinions and tags and live only for Your praise. Amen.

What names or titles have you been called?
