Write Your Epitaph
As someone in their late teens, I found it hard to think of what I was going to do with the rest of my life

Explore: Beach Missions involved a group of enthusiastic Christians going to a holiday destination to run programs about Jesus for children and youth. I became one of the leaders when I was sixteen.
The team camaraderie was strong and great friendships were formed. One of the quirky things we would do after dinner each night was to have the Hot Seat. One person would be chosen to sit in front of everyone else and they’d have to answer any question that was thrown at them.
There were serious questions about upbringing and faith, but usually a lot more silly questions about whether you liked smooth or crunchy peanut butter, or whether you scrunched or folded your toilet paper!
One of the more serious questions that was asked was, “What would you want written on your epitaph?” While the writing on a tombstone is short, it’s supposed to sum up your entire life.
As someone in their late teens, I found it hard to think of what I was going to do with the rest of my life and what I would like to be known for. But the question itself, if taken seriously, could really help to focus your life and priorities.
Application: Jesus met thousands of people during His three years of ministry here on earth. But there was one lady who seemed insignificant to most, but Jesus placed in the annals of history.
Although she had little, she poured expensive perfume on Christ’s head. Most rebuked her for being present, but Jesus stood up for her.
Her epitaph could read, “Appreciated By Christ”.
Every day we have opportunities to glorify Jesus. They may not seem large or significant, but they can all contribute to a life that proclaims Christ as Lord. Each day contributes to our final epitaph.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, Your days on earth were simple yet profound. You loved God and those in need. May our lives reflect Yours too. Amen.
