I love driving around the streets at Christmas time and seeing how people have decorated their homes. Some people go all out with thousands of lights, whereas others are more restrained with their decorations and just hang a simple wreath on the front door.

You would think that if people have gone all out with their Christmas decorations then they would have a strong belief in Christmas. But it’s not always the way. Sometimes people decorate just to be creative or to compete with the neighbours.

Our family believes wholeheartedly in Christmas, but we struggle to even get the Christmas tree up on time.

Our outward appearance doesn’t always reflect what is happening on the inside.

While I think God would quite enjoy a good Christmas display, what He really cares about is what is happening on the inside. Are people showing love, peace and grace to each other? Or are they holding grudges and putting themselves first?

At Christmas time it’s great to decorate our houses, but let’s not forget to get our hearts right too.
