For myself, I love my job but I would have to say that I find Tuesdays the trickiest.
Reference: v.5
Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.
Explore: Some people really struggle to get through work on a Monday. It’s like their life is in shock having just had two days off and suddenly they are thrown back into the routine of the working week. Other people struggle with Wednesday. It even has a special name: Hump Day. It’s the hurdle you need to get over so that you have made it through the majority of the working week. For myself, I love my job but I would have to say that I find Tuesdays the trickiest. I find that I can make it through Monday with the energy I have from the weekend but by Tuesday I’m already tired and yet still have most of the working week to go. There are always just some days that are harder than others. However, just because I find a day at work difficult doesn’t mean that I quit my job. Just because I find Tuesday’s difficult doesn’t mean that I stay in bed all day long until it has finally passed. No, while it can sometimes be quite trying I know that I have to get through the day as best as I can.
Application: Often our resilience can be very low that whenever something becomes a little tricky we just want to throw in the towel. If we hit a hurdle and we can’t see an easy way over it we decide to just stop trying all together. We would never get any where in our career if we were to do this in our jobs and likewise we wont get very far in our faith if we decide to give up every time life gets a little bit difficult. The Psalms teach us to stick at things. In the very same verse the author can talk of the difficulties in life but then proclaim God as their hope and Saviour. We need to have the same approach. Just because we believe in God does not mean that everything is smooth sailing. But that doesn’t mean we should give up. In the same breath we can proclaim that life is hard but we will praise God anyway.
Prayer: Lord, often we struggle to find words of praise when it comes to challenging times. May we proclaim You as Lord on the weekends as well as on the hardest day of the week. Amen.
What is your most challenging day? How can you give God praise on that day?
