An effective team can achieve great things
Job 34:1-37
Reference: v.4 Let us discern for ourselves what is right; let us learn together what is good. (TNIV Bible)
Explore: I am a fairly self-motivated person and can work effectively on my own, but it’s always great when you work with an effective team. Whether it’s a sporting team that trains well together or a corporate board who is all on the same page, an effective team can achieve great things.
Application: In our society we work so hard to become independent that I think we forget how important it is to work as a team. Even in our family situation we are constantly preparing our children to survive on their own. I was really struck by one of Job’s friends who didn’t agree with Job but said to him ‘let us learn together’. Wouldn’t it be great if we all had the attitude of Job’s friend? We may not have to agree with everyone but if ever there were a moment of conflict we would make a huge difference if we addressed the problem by being willing to learn together.
Prayer: Lord, You have created us to be in community. Help us to see our lives in relation to others rather than someone standing alone. Amen.
How well do you live in communion with others?
