This Is Wonderful

We all have different tastes

Psalm 76:1-12

Reference: You are radiant with light, more majestic than mountains rich with game. (‭Psalm‬ ‭76‬:‭4‬ NIV)

Explore: It’s always interesting to see what impresses some people.

My sister told me about this amazing shop she went to the other day. She raved about the vast array of clothes, the cool trinkets and the gorgeous accessories. And yet, her wonder was lost on me. I hate shopping and had no desire to fossick through the wares of her incredible buyer’s paradise.

We all have different tastes. While some people almost faint in ecstasy at a new engine, those who care little about machinery just see it as a pile of metal.

Some may marvel at an incredible view from a lofty mountaintop, while others go gaga at the speed and skill of a new piece of technology. We are all diverse in our likes and interests.

Application: I was reminded of these differences when I read Psalm 76. It speaks of God being “more majestic than mountains rich with game”.

This seemed like a funny analogy to me, but it would have made good sense to those back in the time it was written. In fact, there is still a large hunting community today who it would connect well to!

God’s wonder is diverse. It cannot be contained in one analogy. So let’s share freely what God means to us.
If we explain God’s wonder to us then it is going to connect with someone who has similar tastes and persuasions.

Don’t be put off when your view differs from others, we are all created so differently.

If we are open about what God means to us, there is bound to be someone who has the same interests and has never heard God explained in a way they understand. The more we speak out, the more chance we have of connecting God’s wonder with someone new.

Prayer: Lord, Your glory cannot be contained to just one analogy. Thank You for being so wonderful that You connect with each of us just where we are. Amen.

What analogy expresses how wonderful God is to you?
