Whose Power?

It’s almost a joke to think he could hurt us.

Hosea 13:1-16

Reference: “even though he thrives among his brothers. An east wind from the Lord will come, blowing in from the desert; his spring will fail and his well dry up. His storehouse will be plundered of all its treasures.” ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭13:15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: Our 2-year old is starting to throw tantrums. He gets very upset when he doesn’t get his own way.
As part of his little hissy fit he lashes out with his hand at whoever is near by. While we are very quick to stop this behaviour, it’s almost a joke to think he could hurt us.

A 2-year old’s slap is hardly a thing that causes pain. While he may come at us with such a force it almost knocks him over, we are none the worse from his impact.

Application: We often look at actions undertaken in our lives and we think they are things of great significance. And yet, when we compare them to the movement of God we are quickly put in our place.

I love how Hosea described it. A nation was seen to thrive in its area and yet all God did was bring a wind across the desert and their whole destiny changed.

It is not wrong to do well here on earth, but we need to always keep in check where our destiny lies. Will we look to the approval of others? Or will we keep our eyes always focused on the One?

Prayer: Lord, Your strength and might no one can fathom. May we keep our eyes ever fixed on You. Amen.

Who is your focus on?
