They are now read by thousands of people all over the world

Explore: I have been writing these devotions for many years now, but I wonder if you know why I started. Let me tell you.
I had been working in a church for about five years already. I had done my theological training, got my endorsement and been serving the congregation faithfully.
But one day I was challenged about reading the Bible.
I read the Bible regularly – much more than most of my congregation! But it was always for work purposes.
If I had to write a sermon or give the communion talk or deliver a devotion I would diligently read the Word. But I never read for my own personal development.
So I started writing these blogs. It’s great that they are now read by thousands of people all over the world but they started out being just for me.
Application: Our outward faith actions can have a positive effect on other people. They can learn from us and see God more clearly through us. But that mustn’t be our priority.
In 2 Kings 10 Jehu did an amazing job at eradicating the Baal worship of the nation. This would have been of great assistance to the people to connect to the One true God.
He didn’t, however, prioritise his own relationship with God.
We can work hard to help others connect with God but our top goal is to connect with Him ourselves. That is His greatest desire.
Only you can connect your heart to His. And that’s what He wants most from you.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the many opportunities we have to show others of Your love and grace. Today may we focus our own hearts on You and remember to connect ourselves into Your love. Amen.
How can you continue to develop your own relationship with God?
