What The World Looks Like

I can’t say I know exactly what it would be like if verse 10 completely came to fruition however I see glimpses of it every day

Psalm 85:1-13

Reference: v.10 Love and faithfulness meet together;
righteousness and peace kiss each other. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: There is a great deal of wrong in our world:
Strangers fight strangers in a foreign country, human slavery is at an all-time high, and someone is beaten up because they are considered different.

The pain in our own world is sometimes overwhelming:
A precious loved one dies, a relationship breaks down, or a job is lost with no future employment in sight.

There is global and personal misery all around us. You only have to watch the news to hear about our world in crisis and you only need to push passed the conversational pleasantries before you see a person in pain.

Application: With all this pain and grief in mind I had to stop and read through Psalm 85:10 a number of times. It took me a while to take in how beautiful it would truly be if love and faithfulness met together and righteousness and peace kissed each other. What beautiful images and what an amazing hope.

I can’t say I know exactly what it would be like if this verse completely came to fruition however I see glimpses of it every day:
A teenage brother holding his young siblings hand as they walk home from school, the look on a groom’s face as he watches the bride walk down the aisle and a group of friends laughing until their sides ache.

We may not live in a world where verse 10 occurs all the time but we do have the opportunity to live it out as much as we can and notice it when it does happen.

Prayer: Lord God, the war and pain in our world can often bring us down. May we treasure the moments where peace does reign and see them as a glimpse of what is to come. Amen.

When have you experienced something close to this verse?
