There have been numerous times when I have been left waiting in the church foyer
Reference: The gatekeepers at each gate did not need to leave their posts, because their fellow Levites made the preparations for them. (2 Chronicles 35:15b NIV)
Explore: As disciples we are always considering how to connect others into the kingdom of God. Being a Christlike example is a good start, being open to discussing faith issues helps, and sometimes we even go as far as inviting them to church.
There have been numerous times when I have been left waiting in the church foyer after asking a friend along to church. More times than not they have not turned up, and yet, I have still spent the whole service looking over my shoulder at the door, hoping they’d just turned up late.
One of the best pieces of advice I received, when asking someone new along to church, was to offer to pick them up. You may live miles apart, but there is a much higher chance that they’ll commit to the invitation if they know you’ll be with them the whole time. Putting yourself out in that way can really make the difference.
Application: When the Levites were preparing the Passover, they made sure no one missed out. I love that it mentions the gatekeepers in this passage, and that even they didn’t have to miss out, but could still hold their jobs as the priests went the extra mile for them.
We can often think about how much we would love our friends and family to know Christ, however, we often hesitate to go the extra mile to bring them into His community. It’s not easy, and we don’t want to be pushy, but maybe it’s something they’ve been waiting for, they just can’t leave their current post.
Prayer: Lord, we’re only willing to change if we think we need something different. Help us to show a different life in You so that our friends and family can see that it is worth the change. Amen.
Who in your life needs to be invited into God’s kingdom?
