Waiting For Change

I declared I’d never go back.

Genesis 18:9-15

Reference: So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?” (‭Genesis‬ ‭18‬:‭12‬ NIV)

Explore: We’d been down this path before and it had not ended well. I love the cinema but my boys just weren’t ready to sit through a whole movie.

Last time we had visited, one boy had spent his whole time on the floor looking for popcorn and the other had turned around to look at the people behind us, rather than the screen for the whole duration of the movie. I declared I’d never go back.

But time had healed me and we headed back to the big screen. I worded the boys up about appropriate behaviour in the cinema and hoped for the best.

I was pleasantly surprised. After a few seating negotiations at the beginning, the boys sat through most of the movie with only one toilet break in the middle! There was still room for improvement but we had come a long way.

Application: Significant change takes time. I must admit that sometimes I get impatient and give up waiting.
I wonder if that’s where Sarah was at when God reminded her she would birth a whole nation. She was in her nineties so there’s no denying she had waited a decent amount of time.

But time is not the important factor for God. His timing seems to be on a different playing field to ours.

It’s easy to get impatient and give up, but God is there and He will come through. No matter what change you are waiting for, He will see it through.

Prayer: Lord, we get impatient and lose faith. May we never doubt You or Your timing. Amen.

What change are you waiting for?
