Unlikely Friend

On paper we seem poles apart.

Joshua 2:1-24

Reference: “But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. She said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they had come from.” ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭2:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: A lot of my friends are very similar to me. We enjoy food, we’re comfortable talking about our faith and we love a good laugh.

One of my friends, however, stands out from my usual crowd. She spends a significant amount on beauty products, she continually moves workplaces to chase more money and she tends to bed hop when it comes to intimate relationships.

On paper we seem poles apart. However, this particular friend has been a really good support to me throughout a number of challenging times.

And the great thing is, I know I have been able to speak wisdom into her life at times too. We’re quite the unlikely pair, but I feel God has brought us together to be significant to each other.

Application: We are often drawn to people who are similar to us but we lose out if we are closed off to learning from all sorts of people.

In Joshua 2, Joshua sent some spies into a foreign city to learn about what they thought of Joshua and God’s nation. They came into all sorts of trouble and ended up relying on Rahab, a prostitute, who saved their lives. In return she asked them to spare hers.

This connection had a huge impact on their lives but, through scripture, has gone on to impact millions of other lives. Let’s not be closed to the people we meet. You never know how they may change your life.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the significant people You have brought into our lives. May we be open to Your voice spoken through different people. Amen.
