Sam ended up on the ride of his life
Reference: Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. (Luke 12:6 NIV)
Explore: A friend of mine, Sam, tells a great story about a school camp he attended.
To help pack the bus before departure, Sam got into the luggage compartment under the bus to assist in moving the bags all the way to the back. As the luggage space filled up the staff member went to see if there were any more bags to go under the bus.
While they were away the bus driver came around, saw the luggage compartment was full and closed the doors. The staff member returned, saw the doors closed and boarded the bus.
Neither of them realised that Sam was still stowed under the bus with all the luggage!
The bus departed, with Sam underneath, who ended up on the ride of his life as he journeyed the whole way to camp under a bus surrounded by luggage and sleeping bags.
Thankfully he arrived to camp safely but, needless to say, the staff were mortified to find him still under the bus when they opened the doors to retrieve everyone’s luggage. It was a humorous adventure of a forgotten student.
Application: Even families have stories of forgotten children. The mother thought the father had the child and the father thought they were with the mother but they were still in the bathroom at the service station and were traumatised to discover they were left behind.
Your story of being left out, left behind or forgotten may not be as dramatic as that but there are times in everyone’s life when they feel unwanted.
Not in God’s family though! If ever we feel like no one cares about us we just have to remember what God has done for each one of us.
The sacrifice Jesus made on the cross reminds us we are never forgotten. We are cared for and thought of so much that God gave the ultimate act of love for each one of us.
As God never forgets us, may we never forget His love and grace shown through that mighty act on the cross.
Prayer: Lord, there are times when we feel lost and alone. Help us to connect into Your love that never forgets us and never leaves us. Amen.
When have you felt left behind?
