I could see my thoughts were really getting me down

Explore: The other day I was having a real downer. Nothing seemed to be going right and I felt like an absolute failure.
I got myself out of the house and went for a walk. I was hesitant to do so as I often just go over and over the thoughts in my head when I’m out exercising and I could see my thoughts were really getting me down.
I didn’t want to listen to music or a podcast so I set myself a challenge: list all the things you are thankful for.
To be honest the list started out very basic. I thanked God for the sun and that I had food in the cupboard. But as I continued my list, I realised how much I really do have.
Instead of focusing on the negative all the time I was able to see the good I had in my life too.
Application: There are times when the negatives seem to outweigh the positive. It’s at those times that we need to remind ourselves of what is good in our lives.
In 1 Corinthians Paul was hearing all sorts of bad things coming out of one of the churches he had planted. He would certainly address the issues, but he started off with a positive and thanked God for the people.
I know I can be quick to notice the negatives in my world, but today I am challenged to be thankful. It doesn’t mean we sweep the negative away, but just put it in perspective of all God has blessed us with.
Prayer: Lord, I thank You for the many things in my life that are good and from You. May I be more open to seeing the good in my world today. Amen.
What good things do you have in your life?
