To The Moon and Back

People express love in many different ways

Psalm 57:1-11

Reference: “For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭57:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: “I love you to the moon and back.” This is a common saying to express how great someone’s love is.

Although unsure of its origin it has now been used in books, movies and many greeting cards. I remember when one of my foster boys said it to me and it certainly made my heart big!

People express love in many different ways. Our three year old constantly taps us when we are near. It’s his way of letting us know he is still there and that he likes us being close.

Application: No greater love was shown than when Jesus, in His innocence, died for our sin. That is the ultimate act of love.

And the Psalmist was already declaring God’s great love before Jesus was on the earth. “For great is your love, reaching to the heavens…”

In essence it was the Psalmist who came up with the concept of loving someone to the moon and back, he just said it in a different way!

What a privilege it is to be recipients of this great love. Let us never take it for granted and also never doubt its existence.

God loves you to the moon and back. How will you respond to such love?

Prayer: Lord, we do not deserve it, but You give us Your unconditional love anyway. May we receive Your love today, praise You for it and then love others with it. Amen.

How will you respond to God’s great love today?
