Titanic the Car

I loved this car, however, it got its name because the boot leaked.

2 Chronicles 3:1-17

Reference: He erected the pillars in the front of the temple, one to the south and one to the north. The one to the south he named Jakin and the one to the north Boaz. (2 Chronicles 3:17 NIV)

Explore: My very first car was a red Holden Gemini called Titanic. I loved this car, however, it got its name because the boot leaked.

Of course, when you buy a second hand car you never know its faults, until you have a boot full of luggage and it starts to rain! Even after discovering its faults, I still felt a great fondness towards Titanic.

Application: It’s funny that we have affection towards inanimate objects. It might be your favourite chair, a car, a CD collection or your favourite piece of clothing.

I think it’s ok to love the things in your life, as long as they don’t get in the way of your worship towards God.

Solomon named two pillars that he had built for the temple. It may give them greater meaning to him than other parts of the temple, but he used them as part of his worship.

While we don’t want to worship idols, it’s great to be able to use the things in our lives that we love, to enhance our worship of God.

Prayer: Lord, all good things come from You. Help us to put in perspective the objects that we love and how we can offer you praise. Amen.

Which of your favourite belongings helps you to worship God?
