It seems that the more you know about God the more you realize you don't know!
Job 38:1-41
Reference: v.35 Do you send the lightning bolts on their way? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are'? (TNIV Bible)
Explore: I was chatting to a student minister the other day who was in his final year of theological college. He was remembering back to his first year of college when the final year students came to speak to the newbees about what to expect. He clearly remembers one of the final year students saying that when he first came to college he thought he knew only a small bit about God however now that he has finished college he now understands how minute that small bit of knowledge really is. It seems that the more you know about God the more you realize you don't know!
Application: Chapter 38 of Job, along with numerous other chapters spread throughout the whole Bible, reminds us of how immense God really is. "Do you send the lightning bolts on their way? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are'?" What a great way of saying, "You have no idea how great I am!" The thing about God is that He doesn't say that right at the beginning. In fact, we've already had 37 chapters of this story. But when God realizes how little we know He will come and show us again how great He really is.
Prayer: Lord, while it is sometimes intimidating, I'm glad that there is so much to you I don't understand. Help me to be diligent in learning more but have enough faith to believe even when I don't understand. Amen.
How do you feel when you read such powerful verses like those in Chapter 38?
