It was the same veil my mother wore at her wedding twenty-eight years earlier
Reference: v.16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. (TNIV Bible)
Explore: In true wedding tradition I wore a veil at my wedding. It was special as it was the same veil my mother wore at her wedding twenty-eight years earlier.
I remember having the veil over my face for the first half of the ceremony. Not only did it slightly blur my vision, but it also stopped any cool air coming across my face.
I was so relieved when the time came for me to raise the veil from my face. Finally I was breathing cool air and my sight was no longer impeded.
There is actually a photo taken of me, standing at the altar with my husband, just after the veil had been lifted over my face. I am absolutely beaming and looking around the room clearly for the very first time.
Application: The Apostle Paul talks to the Corinthians in this letter about a veil being over the scriptures. To those who do not know Christ it is like the picture in the word is blurred.
When you read through the Old Testament with the knowledge of Christ it does give you a broader perspective. You are able to foresee what God had planned and how Jesus fulfilled the law of the previous scriptures.
I find that if I look at my life, particularly reflecting on the future, it can look pretty blurry. It’s only when I rely on Jesus and know that His love, forgiveness and grace will always be there for me, that I can see a future with purpose and destiny.
When we trust our whole lives in Christ, He lifts the veil from our eyes and helps us to see our purpose more clearly.
Prayer: Lord, You bring light to all situations. May we not fumble around in darkness on our own, but look to You to lift the veil from our eyes and see the purpose You have ahead of us. Amen.
How has Christ brought more clarity to your life?
