They would dare raise their heads to her level.
Reference: I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven. (Psalm 123:1 NIV)
Explore: I was recently watching a show with a powerful queen. While the queen was just, she had great strength.
I noticed that when simple civilians came into her presence they would bow their head and avert their eyes in a sign of submission. It was only when she addressed them that they would dare raise their heads to her level.
Most of the time she was compassionate and gracious. However, if she felt wronged she would lash out in a fierce and ferocious way.
Application: We serve the most powerful God in the Universe. He breathed life into every being and holds the power of nature in the palm of His hand. And yet, we are invited to come boldly into His presence.
The psalmist says, “I lift up my eyes to you”. This does not mean we come hesitantly, unsure of the response of our king. No, we lift our eyes to God, boldly standing with our Saviour to do right in our world.
With access to this power and strength, how can we fear anything here on earth? May our fear not make us shy away from God, but let it be the thing that makes us lift our eyes to see our Creator.
Prayer: Lord, we are undeserving of Your love and partnership. May we grow in Your presence so that we may have the courage to do Your will in our lives. Amen.
How are you coming before your creator?
