The President’s Question

A ‘rush’ was placed on the question, thinking it was a serious request from the President himself

Exodus 18:1-27

Reference: v.16 Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God’s decrees and instructions. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: “Amy Carter brought an assignment home one Friday night while her father [Jimmy Carter] was still President. Stumped by a question on the Industrial Revolution, Amy sought help from her mother.
“Rosalynn was also fogged by the question and, in turn, asked an aide to seek clarification from the Labor Department. A ‘rush’ was placed on the request since the assignment was due Monday.
“Thinking the question was a serious request from the [President] himself, a Labor Department official immediately cranked up the government computer and kept a full team of technicians and programmers working overtime all weekend – at a reported cost of several hundred thousand dollars.
“The massive computer printout was finally delivered by truck to the White House on Sunday afternoon and Amy showed up in class with the official answer the following day.” (http://anecdotage.com/)

Application: It is amazing that thousands of dollars can be poured into a solution if it is deemed important enough. While little Amy Carter’s question may not have been that essential, when the White House staff thought it was coming from the top, they all jumped into action.
When the Israelites were walking through the desert they would come to Moses with their questions and disputes. It is always good to have someone to talk to when we’re making a decision. While Moses passed away thousands of years ago, we are privileged to have direct contact with our God. We can go to Him with any concern or question that we have and He has more resources to help us than the White House!

Prayer: Lord, thank you for being a personal God who interacts with all people. May we be open and honest with our questions and concerns, and intuitive to hear Your response. Amen.

What question do you have for God?
