Every weekday morning I drag myself out of bed, chastising myself for not going to bed earlier the night before.
Reference: I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. (Psalm 3:5 NIV)
Explore: My alarm goes off at 4.15am. I may be considered a morning person, but this time goes beyond even my cheeriness.
Every weekday morning I drag myself out of bed, chastising myself for not going to bed earlier the night before.
The whole day is before me. I think of all that I have to do before leaving the house, the busy day at work, the washing, the shopping, the activities for the kids… Even in the first five minutes of the day I find myself thinking of what I need to do to plan for dinner that night!
Getting out of bed can be exhausting. There are times when you just want to crawl back under the covers and turn the world off for a while.
Application: It’s on these days that Psalm 3:5 is a great encouragement to me. “I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.” I must not let the worries of the world overwhelm me when I have the power of the Lord behind me.
Sure, having God on my side does not seem to add any hours of sleep to my life, but my faith does give me the purpose and determination to continue on.
Prayer: Lord, there are seasons when the days seem long and the times for rest are few and far between. May we rely on You for our sustenance. Give us Your strength to continue on. Amen.
What does your day ahead look like?

I usually wake up listening to you, Ken & Lucy 🙂 Recently I’ve started getting up at 6 to get to the gym by 6.30 (the only time of the day I can fit it in), and hearing your cheery voices helps me to get going and forget that I’d rather be asleep…
