“You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”
Morpheus, to Neo
The Matrix was a science fiction movie that came out in 1999 and challenged the way people viewed their world. It’s narrative was complex and creative and led to two more movies.
At the beginning of the first movie the main character, Neo, is challenged to see his world differently. He is invited to take the red pill or the blue pill to determine his destiny.
The pills look very similar. While different in colour they hold the same size and shape. And yet their destinies are poles apart.
Application: When I read through Proverbs 9 it speaks of two women. One is Wisdom the other is Folly. They both have a home and they both call out to people, encouraging those who pass by to enter into their place.
They are quoted as saying the exact same thing. However, the contents of their houses are very different and the destiny of one who enters in is as diverse as that of the pills in The Matrix.
We all journey through life past Wisdom and Folly. But the choice is up to us as to whose home we enter in. Do not be deceived by the lavish table of Folly but listen carefully to the instruction of Wisdom.
Prayer: Lord, You speak to us through many different people. May we continue to discern Your wisdom and guidance in how we should live our lives. Amen.
