Our family was recently invited to our neighbours for dinner. They hosted an open house where all the young families in our part of the street came over.
If you’ve ever been out with a young toddler you will know that sitting back a socialising is not the top priority. You’re constantly watching where they are going, what they are doing and what they are putting in their mouths!
As the night went on I realised I had made sure my toddler had food, water and fun things to do, but I was exhausted. I’d hardy eaten anything and I was so thirsty.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, my neighbour came towards me with a large class of water. I could have hugged her right then and there! Even though she had so much hosting to do with other people she had perceived what my needs may have been and went out of her way to provide for me. That is a hostess with the mostest!
When Jesus spoke of the greatest commandments he gave us two: Love God and Love Others. To love others is to treat them how you would like to be treated.
My neighbour nailed that commandment for me. But there is still times when I let the opportunity pass where I could show greater love to someone else.
Let’s be mindful of Jesus’ second commandment and let’s look to other people’s needs today.
Lord, we are so blessed to be loved by You. May we love others just as you first loved us. Amen.
How can you love others like yourself?
