The Distant Reward

There are times when you think you are doing the right thing but it blows up in your face.

Proverbs 28:1-28

Reference: “Whoever rebukes a person will in the end gain favor rather than one who has a flattering tongue.” Proverbs‬ ‭28:23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: My friend, Susan, called me quite upset from her day at work. Her manager, who talks scathingly about all her colleagues, had been bad mouthing one of Susan’s friends.

When Susan was speaking to her friend she kept saying she needed to do all this work for the manager. Susan was trying to ease her stress and told her friend she shouldn’t worry so much because the manager had spoken poorly of her anyway.

Susan’s friend became quite upset, not at the manager, but at Susan! Susan couldn’t believe she had copped all this negativity from her friend when she wasn’t the one gossiping about her behind her back.

Application: There are times when you think you are doing the right thing but it blows up in your face. The world is not always fair and those who strive to do what is right do not always win.

The Proverbs give us great advice on how we should live our lives and approach challenging situations. From life experience, circumstances don’t always go our way but sometimes we are looking for our reward too close to home.

Our Heavenly Father sees all we do, and He knows the heart in which we do things too. Our reward is not always present straight away, but the blessing we will receive from God goes beyond any reward we can see here on earth.

Prayer: Lord, life can be tricky at times. Help me to always live according to Your way, not the way that gets me the most kudos here on earth. Amen.
