We have lost a lot of that earthiness in our own faith.
Reference: Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.” (Genesis 9:16 NIV)
Explore: In Australia’s indigenous history, they are very connected to the earth and its beginnings. They have great stories about how things came to be due to nature’s interaction with itself and the spirit world.
We have lost a lot of that earthiness in our own faith. Our worship has become all about us, our connection with our faith and our worship within four walls of a church building.
Whenever I take time out with God outside in nature, I am amazed at how much easier it is for me to connect with the Creator. It’s silly really.
If I wanted to understand doctors better, I would visit them in the hospital. If I wanted to understand mechanics better, I would visit them in their workshop.
Surely if I wanted to understand the Creator better I would visit Him in creation, right?!
Application: One of the visual gifts God has given to us is the rainbow. He created it to appear in the sky at certain times and linked it to a great promise He made to Noah.
I know whenever I see a rainbow I can appreciate its beauty, but I also love its deeper meaning. It reminds me that God does connect with us and see what is happening on the earth.
There will be hundreds of rainbows I have missed because I was inside. I know we have to work and cook and clean. But let’s not forget to go back to basics and head out into creation every now and again to connect with the One who made it all.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your promise. Thank You for reminding us of Your presence wherever we go. May we look for You in all Your creation. Amen.
Where have you recently seen evidence of God?
