The Bridesmaid Dress

We have been trying to find the best colour for the material.

Exodus 28:1-43

Explore: We’re all very excited that my sister is getting married this year. And it’s a privilege that she has asked me to be one of the bridesmaids.

We have been busy looking at dress designs and trying to find the best colour for the material.

The dressmaker sent through a selection for the different possible colours of the dress. Even though my sister had already chosen burgundy there were five different shades of burgundy she could select from!

As we want it to be just right, and to work in with all the other colours she has chosen, there was much discussion about which shade was perfect.

Application: A wedding is a big occasion and a special day that requires much planning. It’s nice to consider all the elements as two people present themselves to each other.

It seems there was just as much planning when it came to Aaron presenting himself before God. In Exodus 28 we read of all the garments that were made for this holy occasion.

Sure, Aaron wore these garments of worship a few more times than a bridesmaid will wear her dress, but the detail of each of the pieces is quite exceptional.

I realise I can present myself to God at any time wearing anything, but it’s nice to consider that God is so important we should honour Him with everything we have, even the clothes we wear. It’s not about the money or the label or other people’s opinion, but it’s about honouring God.

When we present ourselves for a special occasion we consider how we look. How much more special is God?!

Let’s consider our presentation to God on a daily basis as we strive to honour Him with our hearts and our lives.

Prayer: Lord, we know You consider our inner health more than our outer appearance. But may we dedicate our whole selves in representing You well. Amen.

How can you present yourself for God today?
