The Best You’ve Had

People don’t tend to promote things that are not outstanding

1 Kings 10:1-29

Reference: “And she gave the king 120 talents of gold, large quantities of spices, and precious stones. Never again were so many spices brought in as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.” ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭10:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: “Have you heard of that really average restaurant down the road?”
“Have you seen that poorly made movie that’s out at the cinemas at the moment?”
“Have you visited that second-rate playground in the next suburb?” … said no one ever!

People don’t tend to promote things that are not outstanding. Unless a person has been impacted by something or someone then they are not about to tell too many others about it.

Social media is the epitome of this. Whenever we see something incredible – a sunset, a meal, a concert – we have to take a photo and share it with the rest of our world. There’s not too many pieces of rubbish on Facebook or a photo of people arguing on Instagram.

Application: People are drawn to things that are great. It’s no surprise that millions of people are drawn to God. What does surprise me is that even more people are not!

Clearly we are not setting the right picture for God, because if our friends and neighbours knew how good He is, they wouldn’t be able to stay away!

King Solomon, a mere child of our great Lord, was so incredible that the Queen of Sheba came to see him. And although people had talked up how incredible he was, she was even more impressed than she expected.

If a child of God can be so fabulous, imagine what the Father is. Truly we serve an incredible, remarkable, generous, victorious, mighty God. When we speak of Him, let us not undervalue how great He is.

Prayer: Lord, You are so great and powerful our minds cannot contain You. Thank You for Your wisdom and Your love of each one of us. Amen.

How would you explain God to someone who does not know Him?
