Explore: There are times in our lives when we feel like we’re getting hit from every angle.
I’m currently reading a book set in the Middle Ages. One of the characters is learning how to fight with a sword.
In training, five people are against one. When they take it in turns and come individually, it is still exhausting but the attack is achievable. However, when all five come at once they quickly and easily overtake their opponent.
That is unless their opponent holds skill way beyond the level of the five attackers. The hero of the story shows capacity beyond understanding when he wins a fight against five armed fighters.
Application: While I’ve never been in a sword fight, there are times when I feel under attack. Everyone wants a piece of me and I struggle to ward off all the demands.
It’s at these times that I need to draw from the wisdom of others, pick my battles and manage the consequences. It is also good to be reminded that I follow the One who holds the greatest skill in the whole world.
God does not always take away our multiplying battles, but He does help us manage through them all. Don’t hesitate to rely on Him and the people He has brought into your life.
Prayer: Lord, we read in Psalm 31 that life is not always easy for those who follow You. Despite that, we choose to step forward boldly, trusting in Your never-ending love. Amen.
