The Australian Sun

It’s terrible when you are out in the sun and you can feel the heat penetrating your skin.

Psalm 41:1-13

Reference: v.10 But you, O Lord, have mercy on me; raise me up, that I may repay them. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: The Australian Summer can be very harsh.  If you don’t have naturally olive skin then you tend to burn and suffer numerous uncomfortable nights feeling hot and itchy.  It’s terrible when you are out in the sun and you can feel the heat penetrating your skin.  You can feel that you are starting to burn and you can’t get under cover quickly enough.  I always loved coming in out of the scorching sun into the air-conditioned living room.  Mum would have had the curtains closed all day so that the room would stay cool and the comparison to the harsh sun brought instant refreshment.

Application: Sometimes our lives can feel like the Australian sun.  We feel like we’re getting scorched from every side and the expectations from our day can feel harsh and penetrating.  Yet I know that every time I come into God’s presence it’s like walking into my mother’s cool living room.  It’s a place of peace, solace and restoration.  It doesn’t mean that the burdens fade away completely but it gives me time to seek refreshing and gives me the confidence to face the scorching sun all over again.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your mercy that refreshes me every day.  Amen.

Spend some time in the refreshing presence of God now.
