The Australian Seasons

We get snow on our mountains, it rains most weeks, and our temperatures average somewhere between 5-17 degrees Celsius.

Isaiah 23:1-18

Reference: v.15a At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years, the span of a king’s life. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: We’re just coming into the Winter season here in Melbourne. While a large percentage of Australia is made up of desert, it can actually get very cold in the lower regions where I live.

We get snow on our mountains, it rains most weeks, and our temperatures average somewhere between 5-17 degrees Celsius.

As soon as the cold weather arrives the mood in the city seems to change. Everyone gets their grey jackets out and the temperament reflects the temperature as it gets lower and lower.

It’s like the scarves around people’s necks are literally weighing them down and it just seems like a hard slog to get through the cold day.

However, the winter does not last forever. By the end of August the Cherry Blossom trees start to flower, the days become brighter and the weather (while still fresh) starts to get warmer. As people anticipate the Summer their moods are lifted and the excitement builds towards the warmer season.

Application: I believe our lives go through seasons too.

There are times when we feel like we are carrying a weight around our neck. A situation can bring us down and it feels like everyday is a challenge.

However, we live with the hope that Summer will come. The Winter season will not last and God will sprout new life out of our tough circumstances.

When we live in God we know that a new season will always come. He brings the hope and life that we long for.

The people that Isaiah spoke to were going through a difficult time. God even set a specific season of seventy years for their challenges. However, He does not leave them in their despair.

Even the most evil of people can look to the hope that we have in God. If we look to Him He will bring a new season.

Prayer: Lord, while the winter seasons are challenging, we thank You for the hope that stirs within us. Help us to look to You for the hope that we long for. Amen.

What season are you currently in?
