Taya Smith – Hillsong United

While her name may not be well known, her voice is heard all over the world

2 Samuel 7:1-29

Reference: ““Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.” ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭7:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: I recently heard Taya Smith’s story. While her name may not be well known, her voice is heard all over the world through the Hillsong United band.

While she attended Hillsong Church in Sydney it seemed she was just one of the many singers who participated in their worship. But whenever an opportunity arose she would go out of her way to be a part of the crew.

Without a car, at times she would travel by public transport to the other side of town to help out with a recording. She was unassuming, but showed amazing dedication and commitment.

It was from this attitude that she was asked to sing more and more and is now a key part of the Hillsong United band that tours the world.

Application: It wasn’t until after I heard Taya’s story that I was reminded that where people begin is often very different to where they end up.

This was certainly the case with King David. He started out as a shepherd boy – one of the lowest of roles – and ended up as God’s anointed King. You can’t find two greater extremes!

But this reminds me that God does not see us as our positions, He sees our hearts. And our heart can be good and true no matter what role we have.

Let us not be defined by the title before our name or the job description we hold. May our hearts be our priority to align with God.

Prayer: Lord, our society looks at our accomplishments and outward appearances but You look at our heart. May we turn our hearts to You so that no matter what we do in life, we strive to build Your kingdom. Amen.

How well is your heart aligned to God?
