Taken By Surprise

People can often surprise us.

John 4:39-42

Reference: “Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.”” ‭‭John‬ ‭4:39‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: One of my colleagues from another department at work is reasonably new to the organisation. She is a fairly slight lady and reasonably quiet, but seems diligent in her work.

The other week we had a staff gathering where she stood up to share. We all stood amazed as she launched into an operatic song. The gusto in which she sang had us all taken aback and it took us awhile to get over our shock to then be able to appreciate her talent.

Such a powerful voice came from such an unassuming person.

Application: People can often surprise us. I loved being surprised by the first evangelist mentioned in John.

Many people came to know Jesus because of the Samaritan woman in John 4. She should not have associated with Jesus because He was a Jew; she should not have understood the concepts of God because she was a Samaritan; and she should not have connected with her people because her lifestyle made her an outcast.

And yet, people believed in Jesus because of her testimony.

We must never limit God or His children. We all have a capacity to be great through God.

Let’s not allow other people’s opinions to limit our God capacity.

Prayer: Lord, we are humbled that You would choose us to do mighty things for You. May we be open to Your leading and guidance. Amen.

What great work is God doing through you?
