Studying For Exams

Recently I’ve been helping my daughter study for her exams and I’ve felt almost as nauseous as if I was sitting the test myself.

Explore:  I hate studying for exams!  And I have discovered something that I hate almost as much… helping other people study for exams!  The huge task of memorising everything that you’ve been taught over a semester is overwhelming.  Recently I’ve been helping my daughter study for her exams and I’ve felt almost as nauseous as if I was sitting the test myself.  The hardest part for me is knowing that she is going to have to go into that exam on her own.  I can sit down with her and write out a study plan, I can answer any questions that she may have about her subjects, and I can spend time quizzing her on what she has tried to learn.  However in the end, she is the only one who can sit the test.  If she is not willing to study then my assistance and preparation counts for nothing.

Application:  Ultimately we are all responsible for our own actions.  God did not create humans to be puppets but to have our own free will.  Therefore, even when God sees that we are heading in the wrong direction, He still leaves it up to us to make the call.  It must have been so challenging for Jesus when He walked on this earth to not manipulate people into making the right decision.  If I was Him I would have got so frustrated at the folly of the religious leaders I would have wanted to go up and shake them.  However, Jesus continues to teach, heal and forgive in the hope that people will see what is right.  Only you can make a personal commitment to follow in Christ’s footsteps.  Other people can assist you and encourage you but the choice is yours.  What decision do you make today?

Prayer:  Lord, we thank You for the amazing example that You gave us as You walked on this earth.  May we be attune to the Holy Spirit and make decisions that honour You in what we do.  Amen.

How will you choose to follow God today?
