Spot Clean vs Spring Clean

Spring cleaning is when you go to every corner and crevice to make everything immaculate.

2 Kings 23:1-37

Explore: There’s a big difference between spot cleaning and spring cleaning.  Spot cleaning is when you notice a specific area is dirty and you just clean the obvious mess that is visible.  Spring cleaning is when you go to every corner and crevice to make everything immaculate.  It would be very time consuming to spring clean every single week but every now and again there is call for a heavy duty cleanse.

Application: King Josiah was a good king and did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.  However it seems that there were many corners and crevices within his nation that were not so clean.  While he had clearly done some spot cleaning in his close quarters, chapter 23 lists in great detail how he went about spring cleaning the religious areas of the land.  It is important for us to keep our lives clean and holy but every now and again we need a spring clean.  We can easily gather dust and dirt in our lives and it’s important to keep a check on all the corners and crevices that can gather grime.  What shows are we watching on TV, what books do we read, what music do we listen to, what kind of conversation do we entertain???  It is helpful for our spiritual walk that we take the time to think over our own lives and look to complete a spring clean.

Prayer: Lord, we want our lives to honor you.  Shine a light into the dark corners and crevices so that we are aware of what needs to be cleaned.  Amen.

What are of your life needs a spring clean?
