The Sounds of Silence

But not all silence is bad.

If you’re waiting for a job offer, the silence from your potential employer can be disheartening. If you’re waiting for a phone call or text from a potential love interest, the silence can be excruciating.

When you’re working on radio, silence means something terrible has happened and it needs to be fixed instantly.

But not all silence is bad.

When you are trying to write an important document, silence can help you concentrate. When you’re needing to get some much needed rest, silence can lead to the much anticipated slumber.

And when you don’t know what to say, it’s often better to just be silent. Silence doesn’t often get you in trouble!

Application: The Pharisees ended up being silent towards Jesus on a number of occasions. These were the times they ended up looking the smartest!

I must admit, there are times when I am left speechless when it comes to moments in my faith. But there are also times when I mouth off before knowing all the details.

Speaking before thinking rarely leads to positive outcomes, and yet, we all do it. Sometimes it would help if we all remained silent for a while and left room for our Saviour to speak.

Prayer: Lord, may I hear Your voice today. May I be wise with the words I do say. Amen.
