Explore: When the boys first came to us we went into complete social melt down.
We had fostered before, but never anything like this. The two boys were brothers aged four and five and they ran circles around us!
We ran through every day, living for that 7pm bed time when we could finally collapse on the couch. The thought of catching up with friends, attending parties or even going out on a date night was so far from our minds.
A couple of months passed and we finally started to get some form of routine in our house. The chaotic cloud cleared and, while we still fell exhausted onto the couch each night, our desperation for bedtime lessened.
We have still had to give up a great deal to have the boys in our lives, but we realise how much they have added to our lives and the benefit we can be to theirs.
Application: When it comes to our faith, people are often persuaded to follow Christ because of all the blessings He will add to our lives. There is no doubt there is love and grace given beyond anything else but it doesn’t mean life will be breeze.
There are times the burden to be a Christian seems heavier than choosing another path. We need to make sacrifices and choose a different journey.
But once our lungs have taken their last breath, we will fall exhausted into Heaven and realise it was all worthwhile. The sacrifice, the commitment and the calling that has given us our purpose for life will all fall into place and we will see the impact we have had for Christ.
Prayer: Lord, give me the strength to continue on with my call even when times get tough and the road seems challenging. Amen.
What sacrifices have you made for your faith?
