Reference: v.4a & 11: I am in the midst of lions… My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. (TNIV Bible)
Explore: It is becoming more and more popular to buy items over the internet. Some of my friends did all their Christmas shopping purely on ebay and when it comes to watching a movie I can get better seats at the cinema if I purchase the tickets online before we get there. People used to be apprehensive about paying for something before you could even see the product, however now it is just a normal part of someone’s shopping experience.
Application: I think that it’s interesting that people are more likely to buy something online before they have seen the product than they are to believe in God who they haven’t witnessed for themselves. When it comes to our faith there is a seeing is believing attitude, however even when it comes to a significant purchase we are willing to trust an internet site. Someone who has a strong faith in God is willing to believe in Him before they see God move. The author of Psalm 57 was one of the faithful few. They explained that they were in deep turmoil by saying that they were ‘in the midst of lions’ and yet in the same psalm they were willing to confess that their heart was steadfast towards God. Pure faith calls for us to believe and trust in God before we even see Him make His move. It takes courage and conviction but the reward is so much greater than anything we could purchase on the internet.
Prayer: Lord, forgive us when we do not trust in You. May we put our faith in You before we see the evidence of Your power. Amen.
Look back on your life, when have you seen God move after you’ve shown faith?
