Share The Pain

If we hadn’t shared that same pain, I wonder if we would have ever connected.

Psalm 51:1-19

Reference: Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you. (Psalm 51:13 NIV)

Explore: Everyone has a story to tell, but when that story aligns closely to yours, it can have a big impact.

Six years ago I attended a conference for our denomination. The couple hosting were the breakfast team from our local Christian radio. They were friendly and bubbly, but also told their story of not being able to conceive.

At the end of the night, many people came up to speak to them. Most people wanted the connection with the minor celebrity status but I was drawn to the familiarity of their grief and loss.

Our short conversation turned into a dinner which has now resulted into a strong friendship. If we hadn’t shared that same infertility pain, I wonder if we would have ever connected.

Application: We all go through pain but it doesn’t have to end at that.

One thing I love about the Psalms is that they are raw and honest. Right here in Psalm 51 we hear of David’s regret and shamefulness.

I think that’s one of the things that draws us to its transparency. We connect with the pain, emotion and need for God.

Our story can do the same for others. If we are open with our journey then others, who have travelled a similar path, can learn of God’s love and grace from us.

Prayer: Lord, may I be open with my journey so that others who travel alongside can learn more of You from my experience. Amen.

What story do you have to share?
