She loves me and respects me but she can’t believe in God
Reference: And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’ (Ezekiel 38:23 NIV)
Explore: I have a friend who believes in me but does not believe in God. She loves me, respects me, and comes to me for support, but she can’t believe that there is a loving god when the world is so broken.
At the time our friendship was blossoming, I came to the understanding that I could see God in all things, even my unbelieving friend. And so, I started pointing out, to my friend, all her Godly aspects.
Whenever I wrote her card, or gave her a compliment, I would point out that her fabulous attributes reminded me of God. Even though she was still hesitant to believe, she knew the compliment meant a lot because of how much I loved God.
I can’t say that my affirmations to her brought her into a relationship with God, but it gave her a greater understanding of my perspective of God. It also helped me to see God in other people too.
Application: God does make himself known. It might be through His mighty hand, like in Ezekiel 38, or it may be in the small whisper of a compliment.
God is all around us, speaking truth and love and grace. Can you hear Him?
Prayer: Lord, there are often so many other noises in our lives that we struggle to hear You. May we take some time to listen out for You and what You have to say to us today. Amen.
Can you hear Him?
