What an incredible idea to measure our life in love.
Reference: “Do everything in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14 NIV
Explore: I remember the first time I saw the musical “Rent”. I was blown away by the actors, the raw plot line but most of all the incredible music.
One of the most outstanding songs from the musical is Seasons of Love:
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Moments so dear
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure – measure a year?
In daylights – in sunsets
In midnights – in cups of coffee
In inches – in miles
In laughter – in strife
In – five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure
A year in the life
How about love?
How about love?
How about love?
Measure in love
Seasons of love
Seasons of love
What an incredible idea to measure our life in love. How much we give love, how much we receive love, how often we feel love.
Application: Measurements I tend to lean towards involve productivity, success, finances. But 1 Corinthians 16:14 pulled me up short. Paul writes to do everything in love.
It’s not just the writers of a modern musical who had this love idea, it’s actually biblical.
And yet I often fall short of love. I act out of efficiency or practicality rather than doing everything in love.
What a great reminder for us to focus on the right and Godly act of love. How would your year measure?
Prayer: Lord, again and again You show us love. May we notice its importance in our lives and put Your love first and foremost every time. Amen.
If you were measuring in love, how would your year measure up?
