The best type of advertising is word of mouth.
Reference: In everything that he undertook in the service of God’s temple and in obedience to the law and the commands, he sought his God and worked wholeheartedly. And so he prospered. (2 Chronicles 31:21 NIV)
Explore: We were recently exploring having some renovations done around our house. The first stage of our plan was not very elaborate, however, we were still keen to have a professional handyman do the job.
When talking to my local neighbour about our plans she was very quick to recommend a guy who had done work on their place. I’m always open to recommendations and it gives me peace of mind knowing that someone else trusts the person.
I was interested to hear how she described the handyman. She explained that he did take a bit of time to complete the work, however, his handiwork was accurate, meticulous and beautifully finished.
As we were not in a great rush to have the job done, I took his number as my neighbour had given him such high praise.
Application: The best type of advertising is word of mouth. And yet, it can be the hardest to come by.
For someone to tell others about you, you have to exceed expectations.
It seems that King Hezekiah exceeded expectations compared to the kings who had gone before him. He was noted for his obedience and dedication – not a bad reference at all!
If someone was to tell another about you, what would be the characteristics they would highlight? While there’s many great things that we can do, our greatest achievements are to be recognised as displaying God’s characteristics. If people can see God in our actions, we know we’re on the right track.
Prayer: Lord, so often I strive to be known for the wrong thing. May I learn more about Your heart so that I can reveal it to others through my dedication to You. Amen.
If someone was to tell another about you, what characteristics would they highlight?
