Sand Impressions

The prints left behind show the kind of person who has trodden on the sand.

2 Samuel 3:1-39

Reference: “So on that day all the people there and all Israel knew that the king had no part in the murder of Abner son of Ner.” 2 Samuel‬ ‭3:37‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: I love walking along the beach, particularly first thing in the morning. There are not too many footprints that have broken up the ground and the wet sand is firm to tread on after the tide has come in overnight.

When you do see a footprint it’s easy to know what has gone on. If the print is deep and mainly showing the ball of the foot then someone has probably been jogging.

If the prints show a number of circles with some scratch marks at the top then it is no doubt a dog. If the prints are large and spaced a fair distance apart I would imagine they belong to a tall man.

The prints left behind show the kind of person who has trodden on the sand.

Application: Likewise, our actions leave behind an impression that describes the kind of person we are. If you act kindly then people can see you have a strong sense of love and respect for others.

If you act rashly and speak before thinking, people could see you have a strong self-confidence and lack some wisdom. Our actions show our values.

When King David’s previous enemy died he wept and carried out a burial ceremony that showed respect. From these actions the people could see David was not responsible for this person’s death. It gave the people renewed respect for their leader.

We are showing the values of our heart every single day. Each time we act people see the impression we leave behind.

Prayer: Lord, the impression You left behind can still be seen and felt here on earth today. May we follow in Your footsteps and act out our love and respect in our own lives. Amen.

What kind of impression have you left behind this week?
