Roll the Stone

If we are heading towards Christ then nothing can stand in our way.

Mark 16:1-8

Reference: and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?” (Mark 16:3 TNIV)

Explore: After Jesus’ death some women went to anoint His body. They knew that He had been laid in a tomb with a large stone at the entrance.

This large stone was a huge barrier between them and their goal. Even with all their strength combined they knew they would not be able to move it. Yet, even with this knowledge, they headed towards the tomb.

Sure, they asked each other on the way, “Who will roll the stone away?” but that didn’t stop them from starting out towards their goal.

Application: We will often find huge stones in our own lives – insurmountable problems that hinder us from reaching our goals. However, if we are heading towards Christ then nothing can stand in our way.

Imagine if the women had thought about the huge stone and decided not to even bother heading to the tomb. They would not have been the first to witness the remarkable miracle that had taken place.

There are many stones of varying size that come into our lives. Let’s not be paralysed by the mere thought of them, but begin our journey towards God so we can be witness to the miracles that only He can perform.

Prayer: Lord, there is no boulder before us that can separate us from You. May we have the bravery to start the journey, even when we don’t know how it will end. Amen.
