It was not a book I could easily put down and I felt that my life was enriched from hearing his journey
Reference: Brothers and fathers, listen now to my defense. (Acts 22:1)
Explore: I’ve recently read the book Resurrection Year by Sheridan Voysey. Sheridan is an Australian radio presenter and author who moved to the other side of the world, with his wife, after realizing one of their longest held dreams was over.
Sheridan has spoken to hundreds of people about their stories and even written a number of books holding collections of his most popular interviews. The difference about Resurrection Year is that in this book, Sheridan shares his own story.
As I read through the pages I connected with the heartbreak, the searching for healing and the faith exploration. It was not a book I could easily put down and I felt that my life was enriched from hearing his journey.
Application: You may not be in a position to write a book about your story, however, we all have the opportunity to share our journey in some way or another. We all have sacred moments that hold meaning and, if we are willing to share these moments with others, we can enrich each other’s lives.
Just like Paul did. He was incredibly open about his story. He didn’t sugar coat the rough edges of his past but opened himself up, wherever he travelled, in the hope that his story of redemption would highlight the grace of God.
We don’t need to have a salvation story like Paul, or even a heart-breaking story like Sheridan, but God has given each of us a life that is filled with many experiences. If we are open to sharing our journey, often other people will share their story too, and both lives will be richer from having heard it.
Prayer: Lord, give us the confidence to open our lives to You and to others. May we be a blessing to others, not by being perfect, but allowing our vulnerability to give others confidence and hope. Amen.
What story do you have to tell?
