Renovation Guests

We are currently undergoing renovations on our house. But things have been very slow moving. In fact, nothing happened for over six weeks.

This may not seem like much to you but that’s living-in-a-half-finished-house-with-no-end-in-sight for six weeks!

I recently met a new family at church and invited them over for dinner. I gave them our address a few weeks ago and settled all the details.

The week before they came over the renovations kicked off again. We had carpenters fixing our roof and an electrician running cables in practically every room. I thought about cancelling our guests but was really keen to get to know them more.

It came time for our guests to arrive and my phone rang. It was our guests calling. I wondered if they were running late or couldn’t find our house.

“We have just arrived at the address you have given us, but it’s under construction. Are we at the right place?”

Once I confirmed they were, in fact, in the correct place I went out to meet them in the driveway. It did look like a construction site! Fortunately our guests had done a few renovations themselves and were very forgiving of the state of our house.

It would have been very easy for me to cancel or postpone our visit until our house was perfect. But to be honest, that may never happen! So often we wait until things are perfect before we act.

We wait until we will know everything about God before we talk to others about Him. We wait until we haven’t done anything wrong before we get baptised or take a step of faith. We wait until we have enough money before we start tithing.

If we wait for these things we will never act.

Let’s not wait. Let’s dive in to all God has in store for us because there is no time like now with God.

Lord God, help us to see through our excuses and have faith to step out with You. Amen.

What are you holding back on?
