What I Remember

That’s why spouses get so annoyed when their partner does not remember their wedding anniversary!

Reference: He measured the east side with the measuring rod; it was five hundred cubits. (Ezekiel 42:16 NIV)
Explore: It’s amazing what I remember… and what I don’t!
I remember when I was a young child and our family went to stay at a farm on my sister’s birthday.  She got a barbie with a permed fringe.
What I don’t remember is any of the names of the places I visited as a teenager when on holidays in Europe with my family.
When it comes down to it, my European knowledge is going to be much more beneficial to me than my Mattel toy comprehension, but I clearly did not apply myself well enough as a teenager!
Application: When God showed Ezekiel a vision of the temple, I am astounded at the detail that Ezekiel remembered. I don’t think God just chose prophets with amazing memories, it was because Ezekiel knew that what he was seeing was important.
When something holds great importance to us, we tend to remember the details. That’s why spouses get so annoyed when their partner does not remember their wedding anniversary! It’s something important that should be remembered.
But Ezekiel’s recollection of his vision challenged me around how important I think the things of God are. Do I take time to remember a meaningful sermon, a pivotal Bible passage, or an insightful prayer.
Unless I benefit from such things, I tend to forget them. However, the things that God reveals to us are important. He doesn’t waste His time with the inane.
So let’s take note. God is trying to tell you something now. Don’t ignore Him or consider Him unmemorable. Let’s give God the importance He is due.
Prayer: Lord, forgive me when I move on too quickly and don’t retain Your word to me. May my mind be open to what You have to say to me today. Amen.
What is something worth remembering from today?
