Regular Reminders

Although we can look back at our wedding day we still need to have regular reminders of our love for each other.

Jude 1:1-25

Reference: v.5 Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: It is no great surprise to my husband that I love him. I committed my life to him over ten years ago and everyone present was able to see the genuine affection we had for each other.

However, just because I made a vow to Cameron ten years ago does not mean that he would still think that I love him a decade later. The wedding ceremony was nice, but it was not the end of my display of love.

Over the last ten years I have listened to his struggles, I have cooked him his favourite food, I have prioritised my time around him, and I have repeatedly told him how much I love him. Over and over again, each year, each month, each week and each day, I need to show Cameron that I love him.

He’s human and needs to be reminded of my commitment to him. Although we can look back at our wedding day we still need to have regular reminders of our love for each other.

Application: Regular reminders are important to our faith as well. We know that God loves and forgives us, but it is crucial for our ongoing relationship with Christ to be reminded of these things.

That’s why going to church, reading the Bible, chatting with other believers, and spending regular time with God is essential for our faith. It is through these things that we are reminded of how we should live as believers.

We will never remember everything there is to know about God so our regular reminders are a great way to stay rooted in Christ.

Prayer: Lord God, thank You for the regular reminder that You give to us of Your love and faithfulness. Amen.

Do you feel that God is prompting you about something at the moment? Be open to God’s reminder for you today.
