I still feel like I’m trying to prove my worth
Reference: I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ (Luke 15:19 NIV)
Explore: We spend a great deal of our lives trying to prove ourselves to others. A resume is the ultimate in this kind of behaviour.
On a couple of pieces of paper you need to show you are exactly what a possible employer is looking for, and say it without sounding boastful or too full on!
To be honest, I’ve been in my job for almost a year now and I still feel like I’m trying to prove my worth to different people in the organisation. Every day there are opportunities for me to succeed or fail.
Application: The Parable of the Lost Son was a good reminder for me today in how gracious God is and that I don’t need to prove myself to Him.
The son had done the most offensive thing to his father and, when he finally realised the error of his ways, decided to humbly go home to ask for forgiveness. Despite this, the father didn’t even need to hear his son’s repentance speech.
He raced out and embraced him.
No matter how well I succeed or how heavily I fall, God is willing to reach out to embrace me. In fact, it’s those who have fallen the greatest who get the special treatment from God.
Prayer: Lord, we will never be able to fully understand the entirety of Your grace. Thank You for extending it to us. Amen.
Who are you trying to impress?
